I think you leave off a key bit of the riddle... something about actually eating a plum, or leaving with a plum, or something. Because when I saw it, I didn't see a riddle...just saw a tree, and left it there, as is.

Oh never mind... you don't "leave plums". I interpreted that to mean that you didn't leave any plums of your own. I get it now. Ignore me. Super hilarious result, though!

I had the same confusion in the way the "riddle" was worded. I can both decline to take plums and not leave any of the plums already in my pocket behind.

I would word it: "The tree has plums. How is it possible to pass the tree and neither take plums, nor leave plums left on the tree?"
